Metadata Justice in Oklahoma Libraries & Archives Symposium
June 13, 2024 All day
As part of their commitment to “to accurately and respectfully describ[e] materials relating to historically overlooked communities,” the University of Central Oklahoma Chambers Library annually hosts a virtual symposium for catalogers, archivists, metadata specialists, library/archives workers or students interested in metadata justice to share and discuss their approaches. This year, the symposium will be held virtually on June 13. Activities for the day will include a keynote talk to be delivered by Treshani Perera of the University of Kentucky. Registration and event details can be found here: https://library.uco.edu/mjoklasymposium/2024.
The Chambers Library has annually hosted the Metadata Justice in Oklahoma Libraries & Archives Symposium since 2022 to discuss with colleagues “how metadata justice can be incorporated into our shared work of creating description and access for library and archival resources.” They aim for this event to serve as “a space for folks to share their ideas and to create a support network for those interested in this important work in our state’s libraries and archives.” More details about the symposium and its past iterations can be found here: https://library.uco.edu/mjoklasymposium/archives.
